Science and Engineering Week 2015
Back from Treginnis and Year 6 have gone straight into revision I have to admit, they are taking it very well, showing great participation and focus in revision lessons...and (for the most part) remembering to read the questions more carefully. :) We are currently concentrating on filling in the last few gaps in Maths and SPaG. I know it feels like we are covering a lot in a very short time. However, all of it is revision, which means we have done these things before...they just get forgotten easily.
Year 6, please - remember to do your homework - revise your multiplication tables (you need these for multiplication, division, factors, multiples, primes, etc.) - secure your understanding of measurements - practise your SPaG vocabulary (connectives/conjunctions, pronouns, nouns, verbs, adverbs, contractions, adverbial and noun phrases, punctuation marks, etc.) - get enough sleep and eat well - relax after school as much as possible...play, do sports and enjoy yourselves Above all: don't stress. (At least try not to.) It might help to know that you are not alone in having to take a test, so I found this for you: Home Time! The day started with a quick breakfast, followed by preparations for our departure. Bedding had to be stripped off, floors cleaned, rooms tidied and dirty clothes packed away. Everything was spotless and all the children ready by 9am. On our way back, we visited St David's Cathedral and the children's behaviour was exemplary. Once back on the coach, several people fell asleep...only to wake up for our quick lunch at the services. By 2pm, we had finally made it back home to Bristol. I hope everyone can have a restful weekend, catch up on sleep and have lots and lots and lots of stories to tell. It's been a tiring week, but they've been a pleasure to be with. Well done, Year 6! This morning, only the boys in one of the rooms were up, dressed and ready by wake-up time. Everyone else was still sleeping happily. :) After one farm task and breakfast, we set off for our walk along the Pembrokeshire coast. A little over an hour later (that's apparently "ages"), we reached the beach and everyone had the opportunity to play, relax and paddle with their feet in the sea. After a picnic lunch, everyone got to choose an ice cream - or a hot chocolate - at the cafe, and then we made our way back to the farm. In the evening, this year's winners of "Farmer of the Week" and those in the room with the most overall points collected were being presented with their certificates. By 9.30pm, most of the children happily fell into bed...and most of them were asleep by 10pm. After a much earlier and much more quiet night last night, we had a slightly later start to the day,...although most of the boys were up and dressed by the time I "woke" them at 6.40am. The girls weren't quite as happy about my rather chirpy wake-up call, but they also joined us soon enough. :) We've been really lucky with the weather today and enjoyed the sunshine in our free time. This evening, everyone had s'mores around the bonfire and then opened their letters. (There were quite a few tears...and several children have decided to take their letters to bed with them.) Today, the hard work began and everyone was getting to grips with different tasks and animals. The plan was to wake everyone up by 6.45am, ready to go out to work by 7.30am. Surprisingly, everyone was already up by 6.15am...with one of the boys' rooms having decided to wake up at about 5am. The day therefore seemed unusually long for some children, who got rather confused that breakfast wasn't actually lunch and lunch wasn't dinner and that there were still several hours of "day" to go. Today, we made our way to Treginnis. After two short stops, we arrived at Treginnis Farm and experienced our first little taste of farm work. Everyone has made a brilliant start. Remember to arrive at school with your packed bag tomorrow. For the journey, you might want to bring:
- a reading book - a travel game (no electronics) - a notepad - pencil case - any travel sickness medication you might need Don't forget your packed lunch. Make sure it's in a disposable bag, so that we can dump it after lunch. We won't be taking it back with us.
Please remember to arrive on time for our departure on the first Monday back (13th April 2015). You have all been given a revision booklet as homework. Try to complete the work in short bursts (little and often). Spare copies - or further challenging work, should you get a little bored - can be downloaded below.
Today, Year 6 walked to Ashton Court to get the footage for their own nature films. We were really lucky with the weather, but most of Year 6 were rather shattered when we got back to school. |
