In the afternoon, each class continued with a different part of the decorations for the nativity. Year 6 had the task to create the big nativity scene for the board. They split up and worked hard in their different groups to create a rather impressive picture...which is currently still drying in the classroom.
This morning, all of the school worked in different mix up groups across all classes to create Christmas decorations for the hall and...use lots and lots and lots of glitter. In the afternoon, we walked to our local library, where everyone was able to explore the different books and choose one to take back to school. This morning, Year 6 started their new Science enquiry with a whole variety of activities involving light. We started to write down what we already know about light sources, investigated shadows, colours and prisms. Afterwards, we used glass paints to design transparent and translucent pictures, leaving an opaque silhouette to block out the light. On Tuesday morning, all of the school enjoyed the nativity performance by the Bristol Old Vic Theatre as a lovely first taste of Christmas. In Humanities, we are currently trying to answer the question: "Why do people evacuate?" To help Year 6 with this, they were evacuated themselves today and had the opportunity to experience what it was like for evacuees during WW2. After a very long journey to Nothe Fort, they appeared to have great fun and certainly learnt a lot. (Thank you very much to the volunteers, who took the children through the different activities at the fort, making the experience not only educational, but a lot more real and exciting.) Thank you also to Joshkun's mum and Macy's mum, who both made the effort to dress up and come with us on this trip.
Slips with times have gone out on Friday. Since they do sometimes get lost, though, you can also take a look for your appointment time here. I have tried to fit everyone in their preferred time slot. Should there be any issue, please let me know. Thank you.
This afternoon, 10 children from Year 5 and 6 ventured down the road to play a hockey match against BGS. Having survived the trip on the minibus (I'm not that bad a driver, really), they had the opportunity to play their first 7-a-side match. Throughout, they played well together and managed to put the other team under pressure close to their goal for most of the first half. For our Year 5s, it was the first out-of-school hockey they have experienced. All of them did incredibly well today and can be very proud of themselves (I know I am). Well done particularly to Rhys, who was captain for this match and represented Luckwell very well, modelling good sportsmanship and conduct. Today, we were visited by Combustion Kelly from FizzPop Science, who showed the whole school some fantastic Science experiments involving bubbles. If you are interested in taking part in the Science after school club on Wednesday, remember to return your form.
It's taken me a little while, but I have managed to upload some of the stories Year 6 have written last term. Some aren't quite typed up, yet...(and a few appear to have been saved in a different folder).
Take a look at our writing. |
